About NorCRIN/ECRIN

Norwegian Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (NorCRIN) is a national research support network consisting of the country's six university hospitals. We ensure that researchers have the right tools so that patients receive the very best treatment. Our network, in the form of a well-operating support system and procedures for both planning and conducting clinical studies, makes clinical research more accessible to the entire Norwegian research community. We help researchers utilize new knowledge more effectively and always within current laws, guidelines, and ethical standards.

NorCRIN's Goals:

Contribute to increasing the number and quality of national and international clinical studies, see NorCRIN's annual reports.

NorCRIN's Vision:

  • A robust, easily accessible, and lasting national research support network to assist researchers and others involved in clinical studies in Norway.
  • A natural and important partner for national and international research communities and research support networks.
  • Innovative and dynamic in adapting to new and future requirements and needs within clinical studies in Norway.

NorTrials was established by the Ministry of Health and Care Services (HOD) in 2021 as one of several initiatives in the National Action Plan for Clinical Studies to increase the number of clinical contract studies in Norway. NorTrials is intended to serve as a 'single entry point' for the industry for the testing of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. NorTrials has created a feasibility portal where the industry can submit inquiries about new studies. On NorTrials' website, there is an overview of Norwegian hospitals and the fields in which they seek inquiries about clinical studies. Contact persons at each hospital ensure that received inquiries are forwarded to the correct department and that they are answered promptly and no later than the deadline specified by the sponsor.

It is also possible to contact NorTrials' coordinating unit directly at [email protected] if you have questions about the feasibility portal or research environments in Norway."

NorCRIN has developed national procedures (Standard Operating Procedures – SOPs) for clinical testing of pharmaceuticals and for testing medical equipment involving humans, as well as guidelines for other intervention studies covered by the Health Research Act.

The procedures and guidelines, along with associated attachments, are published on Metodebok.no.
